Search Engines

This Keyword Challenge task was harder than I thought it would be! I realized that I often literally just ask Google questions, so having to pick out keywords, probably relevant, little effect and unnecessary words took some thinking. I wasn’t able to pass the Hollywood Challenge, got 94% on the Diamond Challenge, and it took several tries on the Great Wall Challenge to get this one to 100%.

LibGuides

I have a friend who is making positive changes in her life, especially in regards to her health. She likes browsing through the Health and Wellness Resources LibGuide in her quest to find reliable health information. She likes that it highlights new exercise and diet books and always checks the upcoming events for free classes.

My friend also likes the Salud para tu Familia LibGuide, as she can share this page with her parents and find info and events just for them. As my friend is an avid reader, we often review the What to Read LibGuide, so she’s always got reading material while on the exercise bike!

As for staff use, I particularly like the Vital Records LibGuide. This is one I just found while working on this lesson, and it is so great to have all this info in one place! There have been several times that I’ve had to keep a patron waiting while I searched high and low on the SAPL page to find this info. Such a time saver, and really, I should have thought to check for a LibGuide sooner.

The Marketing LibGuide is one I use often, especially now that we have the digital frame, provided by the Friends of the Library. I like that Marketing provides the horizontal displays for programs, so I don’t have to recreate them myself. Advertising special events at Central and other branches in the digital frame at check out is a great way to keep patrons informed of library events.
